H-O-R-S-E
How about classic H-O-R-S-E? For this game, players take turns shooting from different locations. When someone makes a shot, each player has to make that exact shot — or they get a letter in H-O-R-S-E. A player is eliminated from the game when they get each letter of the word. This game is an excellent time to try trick shots to challenge yourself and other players. You can also get creative with which word you choose. Maybe try a game of L-A-R-I-A-T!
3-Point Challenge
If you like to hang out around the 3-point line, try a 3-point shootout! Each player stands just behind the 3-point line and tries as many shots as possible in 45 or 60 seconds. The player who makes the most shots in time wins! If there’s a tie, you can try 30-second shutouts until there’s a winner. Make this game really challenging by having all players shoot at once.
3-on-3 Tournament
For a large group, a 3-on-3 tournament provides unforgettable competition. Pair up teams to compete in 10-minute, first-to-21 games. If neither hits 21 in ten minutes, then the leading team wins that game. Continue until only two teams remain. Shots outside the arc are two points, and shots inside are one. Players must clear the ball beyond the arc on defensive rebounds, and possession changes after every make. Before the tournament begins, you can even create a bracket and select prizes for the winners!
Around the World
You can also try Around the World for a fun but intense game. You set up nine shooting spots in an arc at the free-throw line and both low blocks, short corners, wings, and elbows. Each player tries to make a basket from each spot. The first player takes a shot from a low block and moves on to the next one if they make it. But, if they miss, the next player goes. After each player makes shots from the low blocks, they start at either short corner and work around. The first person to make all nine shots is the winner! You can also spice up this competition by having each player shoot at the same time and try to make all nine shots as quickly as possible — it provides the element of chaos.
