Liberty Hill on the Rise: A Closer Look at Our Growing City

Liberty Hill is buzzing with growth, and the city is undergoing significant transformations that promise to enhance the residents' living experience! From new food options to a downtown renovation and a potential grocery store, countless exciting developments are on the horizon.

Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) in Action

The Liberty Hill Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) is at the forefront of managing this growth. The Commission tracks developments through the Projects in Motion report on the city’s website. Currently, around 34 commercial projects are in various stages, mainly in plat or site plan approval.

New Dining Options

In the Heritage Ridge area, near Liberty Hill Middle School, several fast-food restaurants are on the way. Panda Express, Bojangles, Wendy’s, Popeyes, and Whataburger are all under development. While Whataburger and Popeyes aren’t listed in the latest Projects in Motion report, prior confirmations ensure their planned presence! Who doesn’t love delicious options for dining?!

Expanded Car Services

New car service businesses are taking shape on the north side of State Highway 29, near the Stonewall Ranch subdivision. Jiffy Lube, Velocity Tire, and Brakes Plus are under construction next to AutoZone, with Sherwin Williams opening a paint store nearby. This cluster of services will cater to the growing automotive needs of the community. Your car maintenance will be easier than ever!

Economic Development Insights

Mary Poche, director of economic development for the Liberty Hill Economic Development Corporation, emphasizes the high interest in Liberty Hill’s market. “With our rapid growth, big chains are naturally attracted,” Poche notes. The influx of major brands is a topic of discussion as the community seeks to balance these with local businesses.

Downtown Revitalization

The City Council has also approved a Downtown Master Plan to revitalize Liberty Hill’s core. The plan aims to enhance downtown’s liveability and vibrancy by focusing on Main Street and Myrtle Lane as critical areas for activity. It includes creating Church Street and Stubblefield Districts, transforming Myrtle Lane into a pedestrian corridor, and improving parking and signage.

The plan complements the LHTX 2040 Comprehensive Plan and will be supported by a new downtown coordinator position in the next fiscal year.

Library Expansion

The Liberty Hill Public Library has acquired 6.6 acres at 1600 Main St. for a new, larger facility. This expansion will address the growing community’s needs and feature a programming room, drive-up book drop, and spaces for all age groups.

The library aims to complete the project by 2027, with ongoing fundraising to support construction. Book lovers, we know you will be counting down the days!

Target Store Development

A potential Target store is also in the works for Liberty Hill. Preliminary filings suggest construction will start in 2025, with the store and additional retail expected to open by mid-2026.
