Have you heard of the 2-2-2 date rule for couples? It is suggested committed couples go on a date night every two weeks, a weekend getaway every two months, and a trip every two years! At only 1.5 hours from Liberty Hill, Fredericksburg is ideal for your next getaway weekend. Here are some pointers to help you plan your trip.
Where to Stay
Whatever style you and your partner are searching for, we bet the city has it! Fredericksburg is famous for its B&Bs, cottages, and cabins. Altogether, you have 1,500 places to choose from. We’ll help narrow the field with a few suggestions.
1. A Nest for Two is a cute, remodeled cottage perfect for privacy and seclusion. Relax outside by the fire pit and enjoy a soothing soak in the bathhouse.
2. Adams Travis House downtown is like a step back in time. Unwind in the marble and travertine walk-in shower and private hot tub. Relax in Amish gliders around a fire pit, and enjoy the stone walls and gorgeous landscaping.
3. Barons Creekside has Swiss log cabins in Fredericksburg’s only vineyard. Stroll 26 tree-covered acres and stop for a picnic at one of the ponds. Step out for an evening of wine and live music at The Club.
4. Bliss Cottage—need we say more? OK, maybe just a little more. This cottage has a private backyard where you can soak in the hot tub and sip drinks by the fire pit.
5. Falling Star Ranch oozes romance with its country charm and secluded grounds. Lounge by the indoor rock fireplace, soak in the jetted tub for two and enjoy the indoor and outdoor showers.
These are just the tip of the iceberg. Check out all your choices here.
What to Do
If you like wine, you can’t miss one of the many winery tours or shuttles to get your vino fix. Believe it or not, more than 30 wine tour companies call the area home! Choose a full or half-day structured group tour, or book one just for the two of you. You can also plan your own on the 290 Wine Shuttle. What could be better than a build-your-own wine tour?!
Maybe you prefer spending time in nature. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a massive pink granite dome with hiking trails and stunning views. It’s the perfect location for a picnic lunch or a wine and snack basket to enhance the romance. Don't forget to book your day passes early because this site is popular.
You can also spend the day exploring Historic Main Street. Browse, shop, eat, and visit the museums. You can find locally owned and operated shops there, along with restaurants, brewpubs, and tasting rooms for an afternoon break.
