What do lovers, lotus, faces, and outer space have in common? You can see artistic carvings of all of them at the Liberty Hill International Sculpture Festival! Not only can you watch the artists live as they make new art, but you can see stone, wood, metal, glass, sand, and ice sculpting demos. Plus, you get to be part of the action during hands-on activities!
The free fun starts at 4 PM on October 21st in Lions Foundation Park. Parking will be available at the park or Louine Noble Elementary School nearby. Make your way through the sculpture park to enter the festival – and check out the permanent sculptures along the way.
Once you arrive, take a self-guided audio tour of the live demonstrations. You can watch artists use chisels, chainsaws, and other tools. You may ask them how they get their ideas and bring them to life. Who knows —maybe an artist will even let you try your hand at sculpting. It’s all about celebrating the art and the artists who create it.
Art and Sound
Want to create your masterpiece? Visit the craft tent or craft at the library to make something special for yourself or a loved one. The little ones will also have fun in the Kids Zone, where they can bounce on the inflatables and play games. You can also buy art and other goodies from the vendors on site until 9 PM.
And since everything is better with music, there’ll be shows constantly throughout the evening. First up are the Lochness Rockers, an Austin-based rockabilly band that will keep your toes tapping and hands clapping.
Then join the Silent Disco for a unique experience! What’s a silent disco, you ask? Sometimes also called a silent party, a silent disco is a party where guests wear noise-canceling LED wireless headphones with music channels. Choose your channel, and start your silent party. Only you hear the music, but everyone else sees the LED lights dance to the beat. How much fun will that be? Fun for all ages, for sure.
Liberty Hill’s own Boot Rock Boys close the night with their mix of classic country covers and originals. Get up and dance in the streets! You’re bound to get hungry with all that activity, so stop by the food and drink vendors for refreshing treats. Don’t forget to buy raffle tickets for chances to win custom sculptures designed during the festival, too! All proceeds go to keeping the sculpture park sparkling clean.
39 Years Strong
You’re probably wondering how this unique festival got started. In 1976, sculptors from six countries came to the International Sculpture Symposium in Liberty Hill. They stayed with residents, and locals supplied meals and materials. They worked for two months creating the 27 pieces you see in the sculpture garden. That symposium won the town the first Texas Arts Award for a city population under 100,000 in 1977.
Living in Lariat puts you at the heart of this city’s charm, where you’ll be close to all the unique festivals and events that only happen here. Get in touch, and we’ll help you find your perfect home in the best small town in Texas.
